SpaceX Buys $8B in Spectrum — T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T Fall 6%

SpaceX just made a direct move into your wireless bill. The company agreed to buy nationwide low-band spectrum for a reported $8 billion, and T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T each fell about 6% after hours.

Those airwaves travel farther and penetrate walls, one of satellite mobile service's biggest technical hurdles. That puts Starlink Mobile a step closer to competing head-to-head with the three biggest U.S. carriers.

The bigger signal: most existing phones already support the 800 MHz band, and the FCC has authorized SpaceX to launch 15,000 Starlink Mobile satellites.

What matters next is FCC approval of the spectrum deal. If it clears, America's wireless market could have a serious new competitor.
