Google Cloud Doubled… So Why Did Alphabet Stock Crash 10%?
Google Cloud more than doubled to about $30.7 billion, and Alphabet stock still dropped about 10% premarket. The reason: roughly $9.1 billion in negative free cash flow and softer-than-expected search ad growth.
Compare that with Microsoft. It spent about $45.2 billion on infrastructure, still produced $18.6 billion in free cash flow, grew Azure 48%, and saw its stock rise.
The lesson is that the AI race has become a cash-flow test. Next up is Amazon after today’s close. Watch AWS growth, capital spending, and free cash flow.
