China's Chip Breakthrough: 50% More DRAM Per Wafer. Who Gets Hurt?
China's leading DRAM maker, CXMT, just moved a new advanced memory-chip platform into mass production. That's a big deal for anyone watching tech stocks.
DRAM is the working memory inside your phone, your PC, and the servers running the internet. CXMT says its fifth-generation process produces at least 50% more gross chip dies per wafer than its previous platform, and its new 24-gigabit LPDDR5X chips hold 50% more data than its prior comparable products.
Here's what matters: this progress comes despite U.S. export controls limiting China's access to some advanced chipmaking equipment and software. That could strengthen China's challenge to Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.
The next test: whether memory-chip stocks react Monday when U.S. markets reopen.
