Why Oil Just Fell Below $100 (It's About Diesel, Not Crude)
Oil just gave back part of its biggest jump of the week. Brent crude fell back below $100 after Thursday's 4.4% surge, when China's fuel-export halt and new Middle East supply fears pushed it above $102.
What changed: European governments are discussing emergency stock releases that could add 50 million barrels of diesel and another 50 million barrels of crude through IEA members. The tightest part of this market is refined fuel, especially diesel, and European gasoil futures fell more than 5% as the talks surfaced.
But this is still only a proposal, not released supply. The next test comes later today, when G7 leaders may discuss the plan.
