SEC Unlocks 24/7 Stock Trading on the Blockchain: What Investors Need to Know

The SEC just opened the door to around-the-clock stock trading. A new five-year exemption allows certain tokenized versions of U.S.-listed stocks to trade on approved blockchain venues.

And these aren't synthetic bets. The SEC requires tokenized shares to carry the same rights as traditional stock, including dividends and voting rights, with the potential for 24/7 trading, fractional ownership, and near-instant settlement.

Crypto-linked stocks moved on the news Thursday: Coinbase and Circle rose about six percent, and Robinhood gained about five percent.

The catch: companies can object, and the SEC capped both symbols and trading volume. The real test is whether major issuers opt in, and whether investors show up.
